Hampshire Wedding. Tom & Lauren
December 7th, 2011
Tom and Lauren then…
Although I swear by engagement shoots, sometimes one just isn’t possible.
The day I met Tom and Lauren happened to be the day that they got married. Coincidence, I’m sure.
No, it’s not how I usually do things at all but this wasn’t a usual wedding.
[Disclaimer: None of Joseph Yarrow’s weddings are usual.]
Tom and Lauren are both Jehovah’s Witnesses and chose to get married at the Kingdom hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Brookwood, Surrey.
Typically, I’m not a fan of shooting in Kingdom halls. Not because I’m opposed to the Witnesses’ teachings (You might know that I’m one myself) but because the Kingdom halls are very basic buildings with few windows letting in natural light. Brookwood Kingdom hall was a complete exception. Windows everywhere! I was in photographer heaven (Another disclaimer: Jehovah’s witnesses do not believe in “photographer heaven”)
On to the wedding reception; if I was spoilt by the Kingdom Hall, the wedding reception was like being kicked in the shins.
The Cross Barn at Odiham in Hampshire is a beautiful barn based building but lacked any natural lighting worthy of making me smile. Still, this obviously didn’t dampen the mood of the day, and I doubt anyone noticed the light. Just me. Miserable old me.
Tom and Lauren went for an afternoon tea theme with some fantastic sandwiches, scones with jam and proper cream, old fashioned fizzy drinks in glass bottles, a sweet bar, and lots and lots of beautiful flowers and amazing crockery and other little details.
The mood of the day was fantastic and of course I wasn’t really a grumpy so-and-so. I was just so spoilt!
It was actually a brilliant day filled with laughter, moving moments, VW campers and Beatles and making of new friends.
So thank you for having me Tom and Lauren.
Please, I hope you enjoy your life together.
You may of seen me tweet a teaser from this wedding yesterday. If you don’t follow me on twitter, then please do, I’m naturally very entertaining.
Thanks for reading.

ooooooooooooh!!!! L‑O-V-I-N‑G these!! Lucky, lucky couple — to be so in love, have such a beautiful day — and such BEAUTIFUL Wedding photos to hold and cherish from their Wedding Day <3
Lovely wedding and great coverage. I love the large b&w pic of the Bride
These are gorgeous. I just love the first one of her getting ready and her portrait after. So beautiful.
beautiful!
Love it Joseph! Love it! You inspire me, my friend.
Love your work joseph! Hopefully one day I can get up to your high level! Stella work mate.
Beautiful tones and the use of colour and the grains is very film like.
Beautiful work! Maybe I’m a weirdo but my favorite is the shot of her shoe through the limo.
Top work Mr Y. That clotted cream photo is killer
Three words, fan flipin tastic, my fave is the shot of the bride from the bottom of the stairs, very high quality images Joseph.
Oh, yeah– you nailed that! Really, really nice work there, Joseph.
Beautiful. I really like all the shots peeking… the bride in the background, through the doorway and more. It’s all gorgeous.
Beautiful wedding concept. Love pics.
Thanks for sharing this to us :)
Great work. That last shot is so beautiful!
That’s me!!! Thank you so much for taking such wonderful and precious photos for us Joseph. You certainly lived up to everything we hoped for. Lauren xx
Beautiful photos!
Lauren: Really wish some of us in Washington could’ve joined you in person. Congratulations again!
These are excellent captions of mood, light and depth. All super fun which whisks us back to that momentous day. Best shot ? For me, Tom’s socks.…Outrageous. !
Fab storyboard of a very special day. Hubby and myself were unable to attend due to a newborn baby so much appreciate this window into Lauren and Tom’s day!!
Congratulations Lauren & Tom. Beautiful couple, fantastic setting! May you have Jehovah’s blessings. Contact us the next time you visit NY.
Superb photographs of a beautiful wedding Joseph. Nice looking Kingdom Hall too!
As the ‘father of the bride’ I have to make an important correction to Richard White’s comment. If he is referring to the ‘blue’ socks — those are mine and I was in them. I suspect that Tom has only ever had grey socks!
Comments are made about how beautiful Lauren looked on the day — agreed — but you should have seen her mother when she married me — stunning!
