Matt is a professional bowman so he ends up travelling all over the world as part of a boat racing team. Yvonne also works in same industry so she gets to travel to some pretty incredible locations sometimes too.

So we met Yvonne and Matt in Matt's home town of Lymington. We were pretty late as some inconsiderate person decided to let their van catch fire on the M4 and by the time we arrived the light was fading very very fast and we were left with very little light to play with!

It was yet another shoot where I struggled on a technical level, but I learnt from it, so there's a silver lining behind every cloud!!
Yvonne and Matt were great company, and I can't wait to shoot their wedding this weekend!
I'll tell you more about them both when I blog their wedding pictures.
I'll also tell you how many wedding rings Matt has.
I'll give you a clue; it's not one.

We used all different types of light on this shoot; shop windows, ambient light, and off camera strobes.
And in this case, we ended up in the middle of the New Forest on Halloween (which didn't scare me in the slightest, honest!) Jess held up the strobe to light their faces and the leaves, whilst Matt and Yvonne's car gave us some nice ambient which created a nice warm halo around them! Cool!

Jasmine and Luke have a house in a real life toy-town called Ludlow.  They put Jess and Myself up for the night and they were the perfect hosts.
We spent the day looking around antique shops [it's just how we roll]... then we started shooting in late afternoon.

We walked to the very spot where Luke proposed to Jasmine by carving "Will You Marry Me?" into a tree. Very romantic!

Personally, It's not the sort of thing I would do, but only because I'd probably spell it wrong because I'd be stressing over what style of typography to use!
She said YES of course, which was a very good move as Luke is thee gentleman and they make an awesome couple.

We were blessed with beautiful light which only got better and better.
One thing that I only noticed whilst I was editing these pictures, is that Jasmines skin takes to light very well.

There were allot of rape seed fields in the area which I was keen to shoot in, but we just couldn't find one bathed in light, and that was easily accessible, and then I spotted a beautiful field of barley which ...well, just look for yourself at the pictures;

This was shot in a field of barley as we couldn't find a decent looking rapeseed field, I'm glad we opted for this beautiful field.

When I say "Blew" I don't mean a stiff breeze, I mean full on gale force winds. I actually have an injury from the wind.
I chose to walk to the ceremony as it was literally just round the corner from me.

Cassie and Paul had their ceremony at Blaise Castle House Museum which was an utter pleasure to work in. The staff there were beyond helpful, I highly recommend choosing this as your wedding venue.
The actual ceremony was held in the picture room in the Blaise Castle House Museum which is full to the brim of massive paintings of scenes from around the country and the rest of the world including Egypt, Greece, Switzerland and Venice. Most are by the painter William James Müller.
Cassie had six bridesmaids, all dressed in different colors and Kayley, one of Cassie's younger sisters had her wheelchair decorated in flowers and butterflies!

Paul had 10 Ushers which was awesome.
I love the ushers, not just Paul's, I mean all Ushers in general.  They're always up for anything and there always seems to be some device in their heads that makes them malfunction in the most amazing ways when they get together in a group of 3+...so you can imagine what 10 of them are like!

I'll get straight onto their wedding pictures, it's why you're here.
I'm apologising for the amount of pictures in this post, but I don't know why, I hope you'll enjoy looking at them.

We stepped upstairs to shoot in this room that was just flooded in light, I placed the chair in the shade and rolled off a couple of frames and got this...then I went downstairs to ask permission to shoot there. =)



...you knew it was coming didn't you! Cassie rocks this shot no end...but then again, I think even I would look classy leaning out of a vintage Jaguar.


Weddings just puts everybody in the mood for love, its so cool!

Me and Jess have been friends with Ian and Grace for years now, so it was a breeze to shoot with them.
Every wedding I shoot, I'm always amazed at the love between the couples. It sounds like an obvious thing to say, you know, with it being their wedding and everything!!...but I hope I never get used to seeing it! Ian and Grace were of course no exception!
Both sides of the family are super awesome too.

The ceremony was held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Wilmslow, Cheshire.  It was definatly one of the best Kingdom Halls I've shot in, so much natural light flooding in!
The ceremony was then held at Davenport Green Hall in Cheshire. It was a stunning reception venue, I'd really love to shoot there again.
The food was incredible and they made a real effort to make sure that none of the food upset me. (I'm one of those annoying allergy people)
Also, the staff couldn't of been more helpful!

Anyway everyone, I hope you enjoy the pictures, I really loved taking them, it was a brilliant day!

One thing I love about the brits is that the very second the sun comes out, everyone is like "QUICK! GET THE CHARCOAL AND THE BARBEQUE!" or..."Quick!! get some sun tan lotion on!" or "lets all go down to the beach at once!! Hurry though, because they're only beaches in Devon and Cornwall!!"
Anyway...
I loved Sundays shoot. Even though I was telling Phil and Hannah (My brother and his Wife) that it was a terrible shoot the whole time, I had a great time.
I'm very similar to Phil in the same way that he is similar to Dad...(Remind him of that regularly, he loves it!)...in that when we're nervous, we clown around and go all silly and try to show off and pull faces, and basicly act like idiots! Its terrible!!

The shoot went very well though, and for the first time, I have actually been satisfied with my pictures straight after taking them, Whereas previously, I would leave it a couple of days before I start looking at the images to edit them because I "Knew" that I had failed....But then I'd edit them and realise that they're actually pretty cool shots!.... Weird

Another reason why I think this shoot went well is that a few of these pictures made me realise that I have my own style, and I like it. This sounds like a simple statement, but for me, this is groundbreaking! For the first time I'm really pleased with my pictures!

I love being able to shoot with the d300 and a 50mm 1.f8 lens with no flash at 7pm!

I really love doing photoshoots, they're totally underated over here. Going back to the brits again, I think in general, we don't like having our picture taken (me included)...but why? Are we the only nation who are so camera shy? Probably not, but we're pretty bad at freezing when we see a camera! Hopefully the falling prices of decent digital cameras will encourage the younger generations to relax a little infront of the lens! If you feel like putting your inhibitions to one side and having a photoshoot with me then drop me a line! I'd love to hear from you!

To celebrate, Jess booked two weeks off work, which was perfect! Just what we needed.
We got up to all sorts, it was brilliant! We didn't do as much as what we wanted to as we both had the cold that everyone seems to have at the moment.
I think the best thing we did was visiting Thermae Bath Spa for a twilight session. Along with allot more, they have a rooftop pool with really warm water. As the cold air hits the warm water, lots of steam comes off and it's an amazing site!
The deal clincher though, was that it was firework night, and there was a massive fireworks display over the city next to the cathedral, and we had the best view ever (which was often momentarily interupted by the steam) It was a fantastic experience!
If you live locally, make sure you're there next year! You will not regret it!! And you'll see us there too, I'm sure!
Next time we're there, I'll try to smuggle a waterproof camera in!

We had some really great meals, we ate at Jamie Olivers new restaurant in bath which was amazing. Jess loved it of course, she's a huge Jamie Oliver Fan. Browns was another place we ate at with a couple of our friends, and I plan to incoorperate the building into a future photoshoot.

On a technical point, while editing these pictures, I noticed that I had been using the same lens for the whole 2 weeks, which I don't mind at all.
For quite a long time, I've owned the 50mm f1.8, but it really just seems to sit at the bottom of my bag.
I was never happy with the focusing speed, and the sharpness, especially wide open at f1.8
My sister in law borrowed my usual lens, my 18-50mm 2.8 so I used that as an oppurtunity to get to know my "nifty fifty" a bit better.
I fell in love with it! =)
Its perfect for dim rooms, and portraits. It just throws the background out of focus and makes the subject really pop!

They got married 2 years ago and have gone to Thailand on holiday.

They've got a little kitten called Tails (as in sonic and tails...) andnd this cat is Mental... Seriously!

Anyway, we're having a great time here.

Heres some pictures from their wedding that I shot for them.

We drove down to Cornwall on Saturday to meet up with some friends who were camping. With it being summer in England, it rained, but we did a spot of body boarding, and sat on the beach (in the car of course!)

I chose to just take one lens with me, the 50mm 1.8 (instead of the usual 4 lenses...)
I immediatly regretted this, but its nice to just be limited to a prime lens, because it gets you thinking more about composistion. If you want to zoom into something, you have to walk there!

My 50mm 1.8 lets in allot more light than any other lenses, so its great for dark weddings where I can't use flash, and even better for portraits, as the background gets very blurred out. Very flattering.

If you don't own a prime lens, really consider purchasing one if you want super sharp images, and don't want to use flash at a wedding.

The sun came out just in time to let us watch it set, which was brilliant.

I felt very honoured to be asked by this couple to get a silloutte of them both!

What will I be blogging about next?
Well, as you know, I have Sam and Esthers wedding coming up on bank holiday monday.

I should be having a delivery of a guest book that I compiled for Sam and Reanne any day soon, so I'll post some pictures up for you to see.

I've been writing content and reviews for this blog, and for my site so I won't be running out of anything to write about.

As from today, I will be looking for a blog to feature.

What will I be up to over the next few weeks?

This weekend, my brother is arranging an extreme treasure hunt, so expect to see some pictures aswell as some video from that.

Although I'm a wedding photographer based in Bristol, I do allot of weddings and engagement shoots up and down England, Mostly the Birmingham or Midlands and Manchester and Lancashire areas.
So the weekend after, I'll be doing an E-Session with our close friends Sam and Esther up in Manchester, or more specifically Wilmslow, Cheshire.

I've shot at plenty of weddings that they've been to, and I was thrilled that they asked me to shoot their wedding in late August, they were also kind enough to invite us to their engagement party.

When I took this picture, I got really excited about shooting their wedding, they're a really easy couple to shoot.
