I've almost finished editing Cassie and Paul's Wedding pictures from Friday, and the more I look at them, the more I realise what an epic wedding it was.

Mark and Laura II's wedding is the reason you're reading this post, so I'd better start talking about it.
This was a real fun wedding, they had the sun shining for them on this day, physically and metaphorically.
The amount of good things that their friends did for them to help them out was incredible! The massive amount of great food that was provided was amazing, the wedding cake that was "engineered", the "Bunsen Honeydew Band" and all the little things that made their day the best possible day it could of been for them.

I don't want to sound cheesy, and I don't think it'll be taken that way by Mark and Laura II and their guests, but I was really proud to be part of their day.
One of my favorite parts of the day at this wedding (and most weddings) is the "formal" shots of the groomsmen, most of Marks groomsmen and Best Men had already had the "Joseph Yarrow Group Shot Experience" ...so it was a total breeze and I love the resulting pictures. It always helps when the groomsmen and groom are relaxed and up for anything. It makes me look better than what I actually am! =)

Anyway, Mark and Laura II, thanks a million for asking me to be part of your day, I loved the whole thing and I loved seeing you both so happy. It was awesome.

Recently, I thought that there was not much more that I could learn, but after being on a 3 day course recently, I'm not as smart as I think I am. Very humbling.

Many photographers tell you that you need to understand the rules of photography, the most common and simple one is the rule of thirds.
They will also tell you that the rules are there to be broken.

At the moment, I am trying hard to learn more about the magic of light, and how I can use my camera to capture the light.

Like any learning process, it takes time but I am really enjoying looking at everything with a photographic eye.

But like any good photographer, I will apply the "rules are there to be broken"-rule when it makes me look good.
Camera shake? I prefer to call it, Oh I don't know... "An artistic quiver"?
Out of Focus? Lets call it from now on "Gaussian blur!"
Or, you could just convert to black and white, and everyones happy!

To celebrate, Jess booked two weeks off work, which was perfect! Just what we needed.
We got up to all sorts, it was brilliant! We didn't do as much as what we wanted to as we both had the cold that everyone seems to have at the moment.
I think the best thing we did was visiting Thermae Bath Spa for a twilight session. Along with allot more, they have a rooftop pool with really warm water. As the cold air hits the warm water, lots of steam comes off and it's an amazing site!
The deal clincher though, was that it was firework night, and there was a massive fireworks display over the city next to the cathedral, and we had the best view ever (which was often momentarily interupted by the steam) It was a fantastic experience!
If you live locally, make sure you're there next year! You will not regret it!! And you'll see us there too, I'm sure!
Next time we're there, I'll try to smuggle a waterproof camera in!

We had some really great meals, we ate at Jamie Olivers new restaurant in bath which was amazing. Jess loved it of course, she's a huge Jamie Oliver Fan. Browns was another place we ate at with a couple of our friends, and I plan to incoorperate the building into a future photoshoot.

On a technical point, while editing these pictures, I noticed that I had been using the same lens for the whole 2 weeks, which I don't mind at all.
For quite a long time, I've owned the 50mm f1.8, but it really just seems to sit at the bottom of my bag.
I was never happy with the focusing speed, and the sharpness, especially wide open at f1.8
My sister in law borrowed my usual lens, my 18-50mm 2.8 so I used that as an oppurtunity to get to know my "nifty fifty" a bit better.
I fell in love with it! =)
Its perfect for dim rooms, and portraits. It just throws the background out of focus and makes the subject really pop!

What will I be up to over the next few weeks?

This weekend, my brother is arranging an extreme treasure hunt, so expect to see some pictures aswell as some video from that.

Although I'm a wedding photographer based in Bristol, I do allot of weddings and engagement shoots up and down England, Mostly the Birmingham or Midlands and Manchester and Lancashire areas.
So the weekend after, I'll be doing an E-Session with our close friends Sam and Esther up in Manchester, or more specifically Wilmslow, Cheshire.

I've shot at plenty of weddings that they've been to, and I was thrilled that they asked me to shoot their wedding in late August, they were also kind enough to invite us to their engagement party.

When I took this picture, I got really excited about shooting their wedding, they're a really easy couple to shoot.
